Pavakka and Nellikka Chammanthi

 

Pavakka Chammanthi

 

 

Ingredients

1. Pavakka - 1/2 cup, thinly sliced

Shallots - 2

2. Grated coconut - 1 cup

Tamarind - Small goose berry sized OR 3 - 4 mango slices, roughly chopped

Green chilly / dried red chillies  - 3 or chilly powder - 1/2 tsp (If you are using dry red chillies, dry roast them at medium heat for a few minutes until crispy)

Curry leaves - 4 - 5

Salt - To taste

3. Oil - 1 tsp or as required

 

Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Saute the bitter gourd pieces until golden. Add sliced shallots and saute for a few minutes. Switch off. Set aside to cool. Grind it along with the ingredients numbered 2 to a smooth mixture adding little water if necessary. Shape into a ball. Serve with rice.

Nellikka Chammanthi

 

Gooseberries -3 large

Coconut - 1/2 cup

Green chillies - 2 - 3

Pearl onion - 2

Curry leaves - A few

Salt - To taste

 

Wash the goose berries. Remove the seeds in the middle. Grind with the remaining ingredients in a mixer.
